About The Artist

Welcome! My name is Dionna Martel, I’m a ceramic artist and owner of Dionna Martel Ceramics in Fargo, ND.

My love for ceramics began when I was a young girl. On a visit to see family in New Mexico, we visited Bandelier National Monument. While there we watched a demonstration on how the pueblo potter Maria Martinez made her pots. I was immediately fascinated!

In high school I took a ceramics class and fell in love with clay, I even tried to make pots similar to Maria Martinez. Although I didn’t pursue an art career, I always dreamed of making ceramic art and having my own studio.

Eventually I took ceramic classes offered by my local art museum, The Plains Art Museum; this began my journey in ceramic arts. I’ve also been fortunate to have access to ceramics classes at North Dakota State University.

Throughout my life I have always been curious and eager to learn about the world, art, languages, and different cultures. Ceramic arts is one of the earliest art forms with influences from around the world. I believe I will never become bored with learning about ceramic arts. From working with different types of clay, making glazes, learning different decorative and firing techniques, there is a world full of knowledge for me to experience!

I want my art to reflect the curiosity I have in exploring the ceramic arts, and I hope you enjoy seeing the pieces I create!
